Drive-Thru Gambling Coming Saturday, Sept. 5, To Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has greenlit a plan for the Plainridge Park Casino to offer drive-thru betting for the annual horse race. The approval went through on Thursday, Sept. 3, according to PlayMA, an industry publication.

The Kentucky Derby is Saturday, Sept. 5. In 2018, about $227 million was wagered on the derby, according to BoydsBets.

The drive-thru option was created to allow for gambling to continue while still observing COVID-19 restrictions.

Plainridge Park, in Plainville, will have two drive-thru lanes for betting as well as walk-up windows, said Steve O’Toole, director of racing at Plainridge Park.

Bettors will have to wear facemasks on the property even when placing a bet from inside a vehicle.
